Cardenas calls for "effective" measures and "law-abiding" in Michoacan

The former governor of Michoacán said the operations of the federal government in the state must respect the rights of the population.

Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Michoacán ruled between 1980 and 1986 

Cuauhtemoc Cardenas Solorzano, former governor of Michoacán and founder of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), asked Wednesday that the operations of the federal government to take control of security in the state are effective and respectful of the rights of Michoacan.

"I hope that the measures being taken by the authority are fully respectful of the law, fully respectful of the rights of the people and be effective to eradicate organized crime in Michoacán," Cardenas told Notimex. "I hope that whatever is, is positive for the state.

The call Cardenas-who ruled Michoacan between 1980 and 1986 - comes three days after  the arrival of troops from the Army, Navy and agents of the Federal Police to the state  in western Mexico, where violence increased in the first days of the year clashes between self-defense groups and organized crime.

The advance of federal forces to disarm the self-defense groups in the state, killing at least one person, when  members of the army opened fire on people in the community  who opposed Antunez to surrender their weapons.

Michoacán, the entity that lost its way

The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) opened an investigation into the incident and called for security operations in Michoacan look after the life and safety of persons.

On Thursday, the government of President Enrique Peña Nieto announced a  Commission which is responsible for security in Michoacan . In front is Alfredo Castillo, former head of the Federal Consumer Protection (PROFECO).
